After viewing the (phenomenal) video for Jackie Chain's "Haze," Fader writer SHS wrote, "Imagine the brainstorm session. Was Jackie Chain just like, Okay so this song is about weed, so I was thinking for some of it I could be driving a car and smoking weed, and for other parts I could be smoking in a room with another dude. Then the director decided it worked perfectly, so they filmed it and went home and took a rest so we could all blog about it." That's pretty much exactly how I imagined the treatment for this Spencer Dennis directed Big Troubles video went down. Basically, these dudes love fastfood and are going to gorg themselve until...well...yeah. The environment (classic North Jersey roadside establishments) is appropriate. Sorta like how all the Further videos were filmed on the beach. (Those videos rule.)

new: Velvet Davenport "When You Are Out"
Velvet Davenport's latest offspring is now floating in the ether. Delivered care of Moon Glyph, the Minneapolis label spreading unparalled (and varied) psych from the land of 10K lakes, White Blue finds Parker Sprout once again channeling classic psych-pop and spinning it through a tunnel of bubbling lens filters. The effect is astonishing, especially on vignettes like "Checking Out," the tape's closer, which unravels from the shimmering "When You Are Out" and leaves you dangling, yearning for more White Blue. Luckily, VD's debut LP Warmy Girls isn't too far off in the distance.

video: Alex Bleeker on Sunday Brunch
A few weeks back, in the midst of the World Cup, we rangled a few friends over to view the semi-finals while broadcasting Sunday Brunch on Newtown Radio live from Bobka HQ. It was hot. Very hot. Especialy since our Comfort Zone had just perished. It didn't matter much though, as Budweiser's popped and friends played songs while footballers scored 'sick' goals. The word 'sick' was thrown around a lot. It was a grand afternoon, captured by Ray Concepcion. Take a peek at Alex Bleeker's performance, with more to come very soon.

video: Ducktails "Apple Walk"
Hot on the release of his new 7-inch on SHDWPLY (and just as a tour with Big Troubles kicks off), comes the new video from Ducktails, who is now showing signs of re-emerging into the public atmosphere after a few months of hibernating in Real Estate. While the new live incarnation of Duckies is basically straight ahead indie rock (think Real Estate w/ Big Troubles muscle), this video finds Mondanile falling back into the beach zone. It's literally an afternoon at the beach, but what else would you expect from Duckies?

mp3: Tjutjuna "Bottle Kids"
mp3: Petrifried "Thunderstorms"
Lost in the foothills of the Appalachain can be taxing on the mind. The piedmont region, known for its rolling lands, is a weary place for the foot traveler, a world with no clear path in plain site. Thus, travelers must seek a different route, both parallel, and often perpendicular, to the road they wish to travel. The dark acid-folk inspired axe workouts from Virginia's Petrifried epitomize the time spent lost in the valley, searching for a path out, all while daydreaming of what Grandfather Rock looks like from the top. Of course, one could take the easy route, or the injured route, and get heli'd out of the region to a place dotted with Tastee Freeze's and Popeyes, but where is the adventure in that? Petrifried seems to understand this, as, according to the artist, these dirgey guitar drones, as heavily influenced by ragas and the occult feeling of the Electric Six Organs work, are nearing adolescene, many of them already in their 10th year of creation. Now seems like a perfect time for them to go off into the wild on their own.

new: Spermwhales
Originally conceived as a gateway to meditation, the swirling ambiance of Spermwhales doesn't feature any nature recordings, but the natural world is most definitely present. The debut from the Maryland-based ambient artist, available on The Curatorial Club, hints at the tropi-waves ridden by Ducktails and other sea-faring experimentalists, but veers left, trading surf dotted melodies for hyper-dimensional exploration. Recorded earlier this year, The Seven Openings of the Head is I-Dosing for kids who want to seep below the "Gates of Hades" and simply zone out on the visuals in their mind. Order the cassette here.

new: Zonotope™
Peering out into the solar system, one might imagine that everything is symmetical. In a kaleidoscopic spirodoodle world, this is rather easy, and the inhabitants of that realm are making it known by producing wholly subarborescen rhythms native to the parallel universe. Zonotope™ is one such creator and his Cruising Through the Hypersphere of Resonance is a full realization of how one can trap the solar energy and concentrate it in sound. Oddly enough, this 14-minute trip was recorded on Christmas Eve in the year 2012, which makes sense, especaially if you've watched 2012 and 2012: Doomsday within the past 12 hours. Highly recommend DL'ing Cruising Through the Hypersphere of Resonance, which chants in a light that Stag Hare and Sun Araw fans, as well as Joe Meek/Rodd Keith loyalists, will certainly vibe on, as will old Lemon Jelly heads looking for their fix of R. Tucker Abbot's scientific-incantations.

new: The Sandwitches Duck, Duck, Goose! 12"
Two labels that I've been following for a minute, but for some strange reason haven't gotten around to posting about are the Bay Area's Empty Cellar and Secret Seven Records. Their latest collaboration is a single sided 12" from SF's The Sandwitches, which finds the ladies hibernating in an aquatic cave deep in the heart of an island off the coast of California. The only way to get inside is to dive under the land mass, and squirm your way through a tiny shoot that pops out into what feels like an infinite cave. It's a dark place, dank and cold, and completely void of any light, save that from a head lamp. While the title conjurs memories of days when all one could think about was recess, the songs are far from playful and find Heidi and Grace digging deep into the Bay Area subconscious, covering Tim Cohen's "Rock of Gibralter" and "Baby Mine," from Dumbo, which may be the most devastating piece of music intended to be played for children I've ever heard. The Duck Duck Goose! 12" is currently available for pre-order.
mp3: La Big Vic "LYNY"
Ever since we bombed the moon last year I've been wondering what lay below the frozen southern pole of the Moon. We know ice is prevelent, which would lead one to believe that something, of some sort, is gaining nourishment from the lunar ice. When scientists dug deeper into the surface, they noticed micro-miniature orbs mulling about the swiss cheese core. These orbs were observed producing bleeps so alien cosmonauts could only hear them when they held standard issue plungers to their ears, from whence an undulating pitter patter of sound would stir, causing molecules from the Milky Way to dance a discordinately choreographed dance around the sun. This is what comes to mind in La Big Vic's "LYNY," a track seemingly birthed in a land void of past and present, and solely focused on the future, where sound is the #1 technology used to pioneer the last great frontier.

video: Lil B "We Are The World"
A hook like “live positive, turn that frown upside down” could sound like an insincere marketing tool to show listeners a rapper has a heart. In the case of Lil B, it only highlights his radiant honesty and ultra-violet, stream of (un)conscious word play, the likes of which sound like no one from this galaxy.
A freakishly active Internet user, Lil B is constantly uploading new material to his YouTube account. (Dig in.) One of the latest videos, "We Are The World," is a positive nod to the Farm Aid classic in name only, as in this version there is no Aqua Net over indulgence or liberal guilt involved. No clichés. No irony. Just a real dude who wants to "tell you how nice you are.”
tape: Arches C20
Unsure of what lay before them, a few young men searching for reassurance headed into a church to explore the negative space floating above. What came out of the sessions is a C20 reimagining summer as a self-reflective purgatorial state, where everything slowed to a near-pause before life once again took over. Arches have been mining this lucid reflective state for a minute, examining the ins-and-outs of everyday life like molecular biologists searching for fractal bacteria under a microscope. What emerges is a sound that feels like opening a yearbook a year after you got it, and wondering what happened to all the faces you used to see wandering the halls daily. Some are forgotten, others etched into nooks of the mind.

mp3: Airbird "Part of the Game"
Vamping chords on a piano instantly brings Elton John's smash finger jubilee to mind, however, in the case of Airbird's "Part of the Game," while the powerful, yet minimal piano riff pushes the track along, its the lean'd on vox that truly sets the tone. Syrup and slo-fu(c)(n)k are behind the wheel, swerving along by-ways parallel to Games, which makes sense considering Airbird is Joel Ford (1/2 of Games). The difference isn't necessarily the lack of Lopatin (pretty sure you can hear his Roland sparkling in the back), rather the deeper craters of sultry pop that Ford fuses together, sprinkling diamond dust on stoccato guitar lines so low in the mix they almost aren't audible, until the 3-minute mark when plink-plunk riffs kick in and orgasm-on-ecstasy vox help you "synthesize yourself into a new American alien."

mp3: Pigeons "en rêve"
TCC006 - Pigeons C28
On the trail of their Lunettes 7-inch on Soft Abuse and barely preceeding the release of Si Faustine on OESB, this collection of songs finds Pigeons exploring their inner realm. Originally intended to be a live release, TCC006 grew to include new songs (the intoxicating allure of "en rêve" and the luminous "Masks"), as well as homages to some of their favorite songs (Mark Bolan's "Life's A Gas", Dwight Twilley's "Looking for the Magic" and Jimmy Page and Del Shannon's "In My Time of Sorrow.") The B-side is filled with a live set recorded in the dead of winter on the Lower East Side and showcases songs from the forthcoming Si Faustine. Order here.
mp3: Speculator "Century Select pt.1"
Century Select finds Speculator roaming through various hues and fx, producing pixilated print-out like collage-pop, making good on some of his main influences: ctrl+c & ctrl+v. It's so engulfing that when a screwed (and pitched-to-the-heavens) version of Boyz II Men's "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday" sails in, four guys from Philly in matching khaki's and cardigans is the furthest thing from your mind.

new: White Rainbow
White Rainbow has been uploading new, rare and unreleased tracks to his Bandcamp site over the past couple months. First was Boring Guitar Music, which was recorded live in one afternoon under the pretenese that WR wanted to abandon synth & beat oriented tunes and simply make, you guessed it, "boring guitar music." Fans of Frippertronics and Emerald's (and surely Mark McGuire's solo work) will get down on the digital new age soundscapes Forkner crafted for this release, whose cover was designed by Megazord.
mp3: Sultan
Light pollution is a major problem in New York City, especially for alley dwellers. Much like vampires, alley dwellers fear exposure to the sun, not because they will perish. Alley dwellers reside in the shadows to protect unknowing citizens from the evils of repitilian beasts, the sort of leeches who prey on society, causing a rupture in the pipeline of humanity. The music of Sultan is inline with the mission of the alley dwellers, to preserve and enlighten humanity, while diminishing evil. Of course, in order to accomplish this, one must live in the darkness. In this shady realm, Sultan's guitar acts more like a lightsaber and less like an axe. It cuts through hellish spirits, helping to resurrect the underworld and free unsuspecting beings from the trappings of an alien world they most likely do not know exists.

video: Sore Eros "Shake The Walls"
Panoptic subliminal messages and disintegrated memories (seemingly spliced with an old video deck editing system) combine to form the video for the opening track off Sore Eros new LP Know Touching, due on SHDWPLY sometime this summer. A kaliedoscopic vision from Robbie Robinson, if "Shake the Walls" is any indicator, Know Touching may be a further exploration of the psychedelic sounds Sore Eros have been harvesting in Connecticut for a few years, and surely a welcome follow up to the phenomenal Second Chants. Looking forward to investing some serious mental energy into Know Touching.

mix: Spend the Night With...Games
Every summer has its banging mix of sensual classics and 2k10's (aka SUMMRUHLUV) is brought to you by Games. Childhood homeys Dan Lopatin and Joel Ford sit back and ride a .wav of sensual soul and slo-funk, screwing everything from Enya to Mobb Deep, leaving all the shawty's in short shorts wet in the wings. Spend the Night With...is a long drawn out affair that forgoes the trappings of hi-fi blends, cross-fades and mash-ups in favor of key, beat and vibe oriented transistions, a throw back to an era where adjusting the tempo and matching the beat weren't as easy as setting a loop in Ableton. Of course, that doesn't mean that Games don't go wild on it, as evidenced by their re-edit of Cool Notes "Spend the Night", which gets minced & baked, like some dancefloor garlic bread shit (huh?). Hot shit for a hawt wknd Amerika. A full color, double C60 tape edition is available for pre-gripping right now at The Curatorial Club. Epic cover at by Megazord.

mp3: Herbcraft
Until I heard Herbcraft, I never thought William Blake's "The road of excess leads to the palace of Wisdom" quote was very righteous. It always seemed like a cop out for hedonists claiming to have infiltrated a more pure and genuine world. But, in delving into the depths of meditative psych, Herbcraft proves that not all excess is worrisome.

video: Wild Nothing "Bored Games"
A wash in a glow of sweat and awe, Wild Nothing rolled through a set of extremely tight, for lack of a better word, power pop. Jack Tatum has the uncanny gift of a young American to actually communicate emotions without sounding like a total wuss. On record his shy guy songwriting shines bright, but live, he's no quiet lil boy. Standing atop the stage at Monster Island, Tatum, who just completed a whirl wind run around New York City, was as composed as a man who'd been singing to crowds for 10 years, which is pretty amazing considering he's a wide-eyed southern boy in the big city. If you live in NYC and didn't catch Wild Nothing this wknd, chances are your next opportunity will be at a much bigger venue, as the band, captured here by Ian Perlman, is about to blow up.

video: Pocahaunted at Pianos
Sometimes the 4th dimension isn't so sublte. Advocates of the Spirit Molecule break down this artifical barrier daily, while the majority of others only ever witness a glimpse of what lays below the surface. Hunting and gathering, foraging, peeking under caves and ancient rocks, one gets the sense that what our eyes allow us to see is only a icing on an extremely lavish and incredibly dank cake. Pocahaunted, known for spell inducing rave ups and communal freak-funk, hinted at the nether world when they were recently in New York. Psychotropic visual artist Ray Concepcion, whose always working in the shadows, captured the group jamming inside the hyperdimensional helix.

video: Pigeons "Fade Away"
I've been greatly anticipating the release of Pigeons Si Faustine since the band released the Lunettes 7-inch last year on Soft Abuse. The crimson noir of Wednesday Knudson's seemingly timeless voice is a mesmerizing entity capable of seeping into the psyche like a long-lost relative skirting across the floor boards and into your bedroom to pass along advice from the nether world. The tambourine jangles brightly in the corner of Si Faustine, its shadows breathing on the wall with every beat. A fire grows in the hearth, as lost spirits scatter to find the keepers of their misfortunes, the lone soul who can flesh them from purgatory and send them into eternity. "Fade Away," built around repetitive hand drums and Wednesday's intoxicating vocal, possibly birthed from an ancestral encounter, is the unceremonious passing of knowledge from a being to a vessel. When full of understanding, the vessel, propelled, in this case, by a whirling dervish of reverse-delayed guitars and meditative hand drums, glides off into the atmosphere, before dissolving into the purgatorial realm.

mp3: Matt Mondaile & Julian Lynch cover Neil Young
Late last year a good friend told me about a good friend's fell into a dark alley after misjudging a step on a roof in San Francisco. As the story goes, J.M.W., noted board freak, chief and axe shredder, sustained major injuries (fractured skull, internal bleeding, shattered wrist), but it could have been much worse. While the state of California helped gratefully in J.M.W's recovery, mending on a no-frills budget isn't the easiest thing in the world. That's where his friends came together. One night, while sitting besides their narco'd frien, they knew there must be a way to help. While none could afford to contribute what pocket change laid around, they each had a song. Soon after that, a collection was born. In the spirit of J.M.W., each of those tunes happens to be a Neil Young cover. Produced for the A Fundamental Experiment compilation, a limited edition (300), silk-screened LP, from which all proceeds will benefit J.M.W.. Purchase the LP here and contribute to J.M.W's recovery. The phenomeal set includes tracks by Sun Araw, Stag Hare, Sam Goldberg (of Emeralds), as well as Matt Mondanile and Julian Lynch, whose versions of "Look Out for My Love" and "Sedan Delivery" are below.
1) Julian Lynch - Sedan Delivery
2) Metal Rouge - Helpless
3) Sam Goldberg - Transformer Man
4) Swanox - Thrasher
5) Sun Araw - Barstool Blues

2) Laurentide Ice Sheet - Southern Man

tape: The Savage Young Taterbug Boys of a Feather
Wildly scampering through a cattle field after a rain storm, one young man is home. The iridescent sheen on untended grass glistens with pre-dawn sun, as the homeless man, whose home is everywhere, plops to his knees and begins ravaging cow pies. It's mushroom season. Within an hour, the young voyager has a trash bag full of moist post-manure boom booms. The sun is creeping up, and just as the explorer hops the chicken wire fence, a farmer comes rustling out of his cottage, shot gun in hand. Two blasts in the air and our feteful voyager is long gone, down the road, and, in all honesty, feeling pretty damn good as those fresh shrooms kicked in before he was half way over the fence, watching bullets pierce the morning sky. This is how I picture Taterbug in Iowa. Freewheeling and dealing, endlessly living, and laying down pitch shifted vocal soul in the mean time. The "Boys of the Feather" C20 on Night People captures his spirit in bursts that are as languid and boggling as they are true; a psychedelic warrior with the spirit of Daniel Johnston (or the Devil.)

new: Velvet Davenport/ Moon Glyph comp
Purveyors of prosperous peace & luminous light, Minnesota's Moon Glyph have been on an extra terrestrial hot streak lately. From the bubbly "Beach Boy" dreams of Buffalo Moon to the lysergic jangle of Velvet Davenport, whose "Lemon Drop Square Box" cassette (one of my favorite releases of the year, so far) is aptly described by the label as "the story of someone opening a box of candy to find baby venus inside and then this fortunate soul must take care of the goddess," the label continues to cull the fruits of Minnesota's psych scene and this season's harvest is plentiful.
video: Oneohtrix Point Never
In the digital ether, fiction often trumps reality. Trapped in mid-mir, light is a luxury rarely earned and only seen one day a year: the vanishing. Digital gepetto Oneohtrix Point Never resides in the temporal darkness, sharpening his synthesized ginsu's with mirrored flange and tarnished lasers left over from the emoticon convention of 2005, pre-Mars landing, and wayy before Earth was settled by demonoid numskulls who traded Sunlight for eternal pleasure and immortatlity, only to find that no such thing exists with out the glowing star. OPN, confined to a fallout shelter miles below the great red spot, where circuit boards and memory cards are devoured like rice cakes, is a digital pioneer on the lam, sequencing data moshed tirates into synchronized anachronistic robo-toys, a gift to the children of the post-Google future. Captured in hi-definition by Ray Concepcion.

mp3: SLEEP ∞ OVER "Outer Limits"
The Austin trio SLEEP ∞ OVER, who may guide séances on the side, are releasing their vinyl debut on Forest Family later this summer. "Outer Limits," from what may be best described as a double A-side (my words not theirs) is the most sensual SLEEP ∞ OVER song to date, with harmonies that could seduce a vampire out into a high noon light. The girls will be playing all over the great island of Manhattan and Kings County this next weekend, (Philly too!) including a show at Pianos on Sunday night with LA psych-magnets Pocahaunted and Paw Track's newest signees Prince Rama. I'll be DJ'ing pagaen vibes all night too, if that's your thang. Taste SLEEP ∞ OVER's latest below.

Wild Animal Kingdom Records just reissued an early recording by former Olympia resident and current Real Estate front man Martin Courtney IV. Twin Sister's Alternates tape is long gone at this point, however, in celebration of Color Your Life hitting shelves today, I figured it'd be as good a time as any to share the B-side of their contribution to The Curartorial Club. video: Oneohtrix Point Never "Preyouandi"
Psychic chaos and molecular deviance are the name of the game once again as rob0-editor Megazord data-moshes and slime fucks his way through ANOTHER OPN cut. This time we're greeted with "Preyouandi", the magnum opus/swan song off Lopatin's soon-to-be-released Returnal. Will the spinning orb suck you in? That's sort of a rhetorical question, I say 'sorta' because if you went ahead and answered it, you probably aren't lying to yourself. That orb is sucking you in. Accept its magnetic pull, but do not fall victim to the star eating a planet 10 million light years away. Abstract and deconsctruct hindsight until all you can visualize are circuit bent geometrics rotting in the atmosphere.

video: Stellar OM Source "Island Best"
The genuine nature of movies and television shows is so captivating that most people sit around enfatuated with the boob tube for an average of 10 hours. When the opening credits roll, a new dimension is entered. A realm full of un/paralleled im/possibility. Armchair psychiatrists often note the escapist factor. The video for Stellar Om Source's "Island Best" is an ode to the grand tradition of the escapist-fantasy trailer. A glimpse of a world most would never dream of occupying, yet no one would pass up the chance to leave their body for a few hours to explore regions unknown to mere mortals.

James Ferraro just posted a preview of what will be a "full length feature" video to hit the web later this summer. "Demon Channels," described as "a sneak peak at hell's hottest TV show", features both "Motel Christmas," from the recently released Feed Me CD, and "Cheez Whiz in Fast Forward," which looks AND sounds just like a chemi-fromage clogged VHS run through a broken security monitor at high speed. new: Oneohtrix Point Never "Pelham Island Road"
Eternity always feels like a long way away, but is it? That's the feeling OPN's "Pelham Island Road" conjures. A long and twisted visual trip down a road thats more like a jeti, surrounded on both sides by tides crashing on ancient stone. While digital drone is the force, an air of humanity permeates "Pelham Island Road," a head scratcher which begs on to ask, Who exactly is the ghost in the machine? The answer lies within Returnal.

new: WOOM
Residing in the murky lowlands can make for a peculiar existence. Minimalism is key, and the union of mind, body and spirit aids in expanding the limitations of desolate living. A voice is much more than a voice. And, like many other oft-overlooked elements of daily life, the voice can be used to fulfill greater needs. (Ex. A bird call is not just a bird call, it's a call/cry for food.) This union can transform tin cans, car tires and fish bones Heathcliff dragged in from the swamp into wondrous pieces of exotic gadgetry; twig sticks, skeletal marimbas and natural cavern echo chambers are some of the first things that come to mind. And thus is the magic displayed on Muu's Way, the debut from WOOM, out June 28th on BaDaBing Records.

bobkast: #32 So I Can Fly
May Flowers are spewing out an obscene amount of pollen into the atmosphere. Streets glow a tainted boogie colour, giving concrete a luscious, almost sensual appeal. The green mist penetrates our nasal cavity's and fucks with our neuro-system. Eyes water, heads swell and before you can wipe the goo from your nose, a dizzy-ing rush rolls over you. Next thing you know, your alone in a room. A bed room. In a doll house. Inside a hot air balloon. There's a looney man at the helm, boosting flame power, before letting it ride out and sailing across the solar sea.

mp3: We Like Cats "Money Dub Money"
Original tracks for their debut LP Proper Eats were recorded at Marriage Studio in Portland, Oregon on two sizzingly hot summer days in 2009.The tape were then buried in a small plot of dirt next to the parking lot through the rainy season until the winter of 09/10, at which point they were properly saturated with the deepest filth of soul fire dub juice, cooked in an oven for 7 hours on low heat, strung back up in the studio, versioned, dubbed and mastered for thickest possible vibrations."That's about as apt a description as you are going to find. The warped and Tubby-inspired party collection is available on LP from Marriage Records, and the vinyl comes with "4 extended bonus dub version mp3s" for all you soundwoofin' heads lurking in the swamp.

cd: Jim/James Ferraro On Air & Feed Me
It's only been a minute since OESB dropped James Ferraro's The Last American Hero but that doesn't mean the martian hamburgler can't drop another one today. That said, Mr. Ferraro is dropping TWO new CDs today on his Muscle Works Inc. label. The latest batch finds the omnipresent humanoid trying out a new pseudonym, Jim Ferraro, the moniker he used to create On Air. (Feed Me was released by James Ferraro.) Gushing with silicon ease, On Air is the sound of keyboards smoking on battery acid ooz and nascent circuit board tweakery spewing off into the mist like mayonaise fizzing from a 2 liter bottle of Sunkist. Repetition is key, and rewards are great for those huffers gonked enough to seperate the eternal goo from the ecto plasm.

album: Liam the Younger Revel Hidden Worlds
Liam the Younger isn't one to play into public perceptions or preconceived notions. On his latest record, Revel Hidden Worlds, he sheds much of the tape hiss and acousic balladry that populate Clear Skies Over Black River and After the Graveyard and, in the process, finds his voice as redemtive Tiresias. As usual his lyrics are prophetic, words not just for singing, but for living, the sort of songs that become ingrained in your psyche after only a few listens. When "Lie" punches through the drywall caked "All Here For" it's clear this record isn't just a day in the park, but a beast with motives and intentions neither you nor I will ever understand, no matter how hard we try. But in that non-understanding lies the pay off; Revel Hidden Worlds does just that, peeling the coating from the everyday, highlighting the everyday bullshit and beauty that make life worth living. Revel Hidden World was recently released on LP by Brave Men Run as a limited pressing of 300 vinyl, complete with photo/lyric book. I highly suggest you purchase it here. Copies of the album are also available on cassette through Wild Animal Kingdom. In addition, Liam's also made the record available for free download, which you can do below.

mix: Love Triangle
Austin synth-quartet SURVIVE just posted this Texas sized mix made for Vice UK by Tommy Boy. The results are near Earth shaking. Gathering bits and pieces from the Austin-Houston-Dallas Triangle, Love Triangle is a roll slow'd/lean back oriented mix that is sure to set the tone for a warped weekend. From George Quartz cover of "Coconut" to Psychic Violence's "U is Moon" to Twisted Wire's "Hell" and How to Quit Crack's "Gone Away", this is essentially the education I received on my first trip to Austin last March. I can guarantee that nearly all of this mix, if not the entire thing, will be new to you. Now put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up.

mp3: Do While "Balloon Clouds/Balloon"
The other day I made reference to an escapist balloon retreating into the atmosphere in a post about Wigflip Records new Run DMT/Happy Family split. And now, the score from inside that drfiting balloon; Do While's "Balloon Clouds/Balloon." Transience is the main objective here. Meandering bliss and repetitive loops are the focus, which is totally out of focus and mared by the sun's striking glare. "Balloon Clouds/Balloon" lures you into a realm; you have two choices; to completely avoid it, or to succomb to the atmosphere, a place Do While seems to explore with wide eyes and exploratory intentions. Explorations can be found on his new CD on Wigflip Records.

split: Run DMT/ Happy Family
There is little one can do to stop a helium balloon from running away. The easiest way would be to simply pop the balloon, then it could never leave. Of course, then you'd have to watch it wither away in front of you, until its a wrinkly mess of plastic and gas. But, if you just set the balloon free, it could lend a smile to anyone in the burgeoning Babylon who happened to watch the balloon soar above the city. In a way, the new split between salty Balty's Happy Family and Run DMT (now residing in Brooklyn) is that balloon, a gas'd vessel capable of charming the pants off the nastiest of cobra's. If "Youtube" and "Spruce Bringsteen" are any indication, smiles abound in our fair city today. Watch the sky.
video: Dirty Beaches "True Blue"
Enamored with Dirty Beaches sound after reading Tom's praise a few months ago, I copped Alex Zhang Hungtai's self-titled Night People tape at Co-Op 87 last I was there. While the ambiance is up my alley, it hasn't hit me the way "True Blue" did. A relic from days when aching Orbison melodies accounted for a collosal amount of joy and sorry, "True Blue" rings familiar, while skirting the obvious in place of something a little more genuine. The tune is removed from its kin, sort of the ugly duckling, and while it straddles roads Roy probably manuevered many nights in his little Red corvette, "True Blue" is ostensibly original. It help's that in the video, Alex simply performs solo over a backing track, crooning on a security camera while double exposed visions of highways yet to travel color the negative space. One could easily loose sense of self while viewing.
radio: Sunday Brunch Ep11
The above image was found by Googling 'hot city.' On the way to Danbro on Sunday it was 97. By the time we left, 103?!?! Delirious & stanky we sought refuge in the Newtown Radio studio, which, in all honesty, sorta sucked considering how sunny it was. Either way, we did our best to hold down some cool vibes for those sweltering in batcave apartments. No live performances this week, but Ari & I did play tracks from the new Woods LP, the (hot-off-the-press) Mountain Man 10" and an assortment of other random goodies, including Shits & Giggles, an Ariel Pink sideproject released Trick or Treat through (co-conspirators) the Vas Deferens' Free Dope And Fucking In the Streets imprint.
