This past Sunday I headed into the Newtown lab with GAMES to DJ up a WaySlower couple of hours for the kids. The result is a mix of Nyquil R&B, digi-whackness and straight slow-jams. The set flows pretty nicely, from Da Brat to Yeezy to Toni Braxton to Luther Vandros to Depeche Mode to Airbird. Wanna leave a few surprises in there for ya, but be sure to check out GAMES set, about half way through the show.

Planet Party

Been a big fan of Games since the KGB Man sent "Planet Party" over late one Sunday night a few months back. From demo status to mastered status, Thursday night at Glasslands marks Games entrance into the center arena. It'll be a special night, with Gatekeeper, D'eon and Blissed Out opening the evening. Laurel Halo will be on visuals, while DJ Keyshia Cole (aka DJ Fat Keyshia, aka McG) will be spinning nonsense between sets. Benny & The Jetz

Vamping chords on a piano instantly brings Elton John's smash finger jubilee to mind, however, in the case of Airbird's "Part of the Game," while the powerful, yet minimal piano riff pushes the track along, its the lean'd on vox that truly sets the tone. Syrup and slo-fu(c)(n)k are behind the wheel, swerving along by-ways parallel to Games, which makes sense considering Airbird is Joel Ford (1/2 of Games). The difference isn't necessarily the lack of Lopatin (pretty sure you can hear his Roland sparkling in the back), rather the deeper craters of sultry pop that Ford fuses together, sprinkling diamond dust on stoccato guitar lines so low in the mix they almost aren't audible, until the 3-minute mark when plink-plunk riffs kick in and orgasm-on-ecstasy vox help you "synthesize yourself into a new American alien."

Every summer has its banging mix of sensual classics and 2k10's (aka SUMMRUHLUV) is brought to you by Games. Childhood homeys Dan Lopatin and Joel Ford sit back and ride a .wav of sensual soul and slo-funk, screwing everything from Enya to Mobb Deep, leaving all the shawty's in short shorts wet in the wings. Spend the Night With...is a long drawn out affair that forgoes the trappings of hi-fi blends, cross-fades and mash-ups in favor of key, beat and vibe oriented transistions, a throw back to an era where adjusting the tempo and matching the beat weren't as easy as setting a loop in Ableton. Of course, that doesn't mean that Games don't go wild on it, as evidenced by their re-edit of Cool Notes "Spend the Night", which gets minced & baked, like some dancefloor garlic bread shit (huh?). Nod your head and wink. Pass the chocolate dipped vanilla cone and let the rest seep in. Or...What?! I first envisioned "Everything Is Working" as a lucid slo-jam creeping on the down low while leaning hard. This video takes a different route, eliminating the sensual in favor something more...well...you'll see. Look for a 7" on Hippos in Tanks very soon.

Funk me where the pampers is?! It's another GAMES track. The trifecta to join a now holy trinity. Here's what GAMES have to say about it.

this track started w/ a video idea in which joel and i are 90s high tech corporate dads, except our cubicles are party jam stations comprised of drum machines and synths and tactical flowcharts on how to make the best music possible. we meet by the water cooler and i give joel a folder on it that says PROGRAM-A-JAM and i point at my watch, like ‘get it done by 5 dude or my goose is cooked.’ later on joel bumps into a ~really~ fine girl in the hallway and her folders fly everywhere. she ends up taking the PROGRAM-A-JAM folder and he takes one that says TOP SECRET KGB STUFF on it. he takes it back to his desk and send me links to hot pixxx of her getting railed by the boss in the boiler room. we go to chilis at some point probably. the babe keeps getting hotter/more naked and is seen programming hot jams with a Jupiter 8 after-hours. We are wearing uncool jeans and corporate fleece pullovers and have salt & pepper beards. we drive off into the sunset in toyota camrys.

"I Will"Hit you with that epic Games track a lil bit ago, and now the follow up, "Everything is Working," a slo-mo synthetic jam more intuitive to actual love making than the pre-bedroom dancefloor grind that is "Planet Party." The combo is impeccable, as if to say, "'Eh Shawty, let's rock dis way...Oh, you like my style...I like yours too, boo....Got trucks? Got Jeeps... Oh Good...Cuz we gettin' it on tonight." "Everything is Working" is the same magnetic R&B drizzle "Planet Party" touched on, except lubricated for maxium sensuality, making the cooled out bedroom zone the only suitable place for the hypnotique slow banger. And, let me tell you, if you pump this track, everything will be working. Trust me.

Games are hard at work on their debut EP, That We Can Play. The new material, the culmination of a boy hood friendship between Dan Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) and Joel Ford (Tiger City), is steeped in "jazz fusion and midi funk from the 70s and 80s, and Games is kind of the ultimate manifestation of our geekery." Mentally preparing myself for a possible dubstep and/or chopped & screwed remix. KGB Man, where you at?

In other Games news, the duo will DJ tomorrow night at Wayslower Presents: Slo Italo night at Marci Park on Union Ave in Brooklyn. Expect "slo-italo-disco, slo-'80s, slo- funk & slo-R&B." Rite Aid brand cough syrup, anyone?

Fuck "Let the Music Play," gimme Games new "Planet Party," the Madonna-Phil Collins collabo you dreamed of rolling up in a white Caddie smoking PCP and talking shit about your girlfriend's weave, and your jheri curl. Best part is you, the jheri curl mofo, don't even give a fuck cause Games flying in so hot and stlying in some Marvin Gaye silk suit lined with a pound of Colombia's finest, makin er'one feel like a star. It's lingo, but it's appropriate. Scarface would approve, if he made it to the party. (Scarface dead. RIP Scarface.)

Apparently this Games shit is coming direct from the same porthole responsible for Zones Without People and Rifts between A Pact of Strangers, whatever it is, its hot and the KGB Man most surely gonna be gripping it, cutting it and reselling it to the streets for five times what he bought it for.
