Brosef
A few months back I posted the trailer for Nothing Yet, the directorial debut of James Benson of the infamous Frat Dad. (R.I.P?) The film follows the life of a mythical suburban punk band who go on a 3 day tour. Lots of stuff happens/Nothing happens. It's as indebted to the bored freedom ingrained in suburban life, as it is travelogues, tour diaries and mumble-core films. All in all, a pretty good student film, which happens to feature music from Julian Lynch, Liam the Younger and a host of other NJ/Underwater Peoples associated acts. Currently airing for One Week Only on Pitchfork.

video: Nothing Yet trailer (aka Frat Dad:The Movie?)
"Brosef"
Jesse Jarnow once wrote that "every generation needs its tripped out over-ambitious rock movie that doesn't make sense." Well, kids of 2k9/10/11, here's yours. (Maybe.) Directed by James Benson (Frat Dad) and Bernardo Britto, Nothing Yet follows the story of a young punk rock band from New Jersey who happens to play Frat Dad songs, however, the band IS NOT Frat Dad. Rather, dopplegangers. Fluffy Lumbers (and Frat Dad member) Sam Franklin stars in the film, alongside Frat Dad brother James Benson and Luka Usmiani, who never (to my knowledge) played in Frat Dad, though plays/has played in nearly every other conceivable 4th wave band from Bergen County. (Correction: Luka played in Frat Dad....once.) Nothing Yet, aka not Frat Dad: The Movie, features music from a host of Rock Ridge bands, including Liam the Younger, Julian Lynch and Real Estate. Look for the full-length comedic feature soon.

new: Frat Dad 7"
"Just a Freak of Nature"

What happens when two kids bash out music in their parents basements while eating Cool Ranch Dorito's and ripping on all the douchey tool bags in their classes? Frat Dad. As Underwater People's Chinese Diplomat Sawyer Carter Jacobs notes, "Frat Dad is like going over Niagara Falls in a barrel, then landing in a Middle School Cafeteria... on Mexican Pizza Day." I couldn't agree more. It's all the pent up, retarded angst slow cooked and marinated for years in suburban middle schools and high schools across America. Add a kilo of sugar and a dash of nicotine and you get the latest revival in pissed off, sloppy, distorto teen, fuck you punk. It's not the stoney, drift away chiller vibes Underwater People's are known for releasing, rather a welcomed kick in the ass for all you punters hung up on chillwave blah blah.
Pre-order the "Greg the Nerd" b/w "Freak in Nature" 7-inch here.
