video: Oneohtrix Point Never

"Summer Time"

In the digital ether, fiction often trumps reality. Trapped in mid-mir, light is a luxury rarely earned and only seen one day a year: the vanishing. Digital gepetto Oneohtrix Point Never resides in the temporal darkness, sharpening his synthesized ginsu's with mirrored flange and tarnished lasers left over from the emoticon convention of 2005, pre-Mars landing, and wayy before Earth was settled by demonoid numskulls who traded Sunlight for eternal pleasure and immortatlity, only to find that no such thing exists with out the glowing star. OPN, confined to a fallout shelter miles below the great red spot, where circuit boards and memory cards are devoured like rice cakes, is a digital pioneer on the lam, sequencing data moshed tirates into synchronized anachronistic robo-toys, a gift to the children of the post-Google future. Captured in hi-definition by Ray Concepcion.

video: Oneohtrix Point Never "Preyouandi"

"Zones Without People"

Psychic chaos and molecular deviance are the name of the game once again as rob0-editor Megazord data-moshes and slime fucks his way through ANOTHER OPN cut. This time we're greeted with "Preyouandi", the magnum opus/swan song off Lopatin's soon-to-be-released Returnal. Will the spinning orb suck you in? That's sort of a rhetorical question, I say 'sorta' because if you went ahead and answered it, you probably aren't lying to yourself. That orb is sucking you in. Accept its magnetic pull, but do not fall victim to the star eating a planet 10 million light years away. Abstract and deconsctruct hindsight until all you can visualize are circuit bent geometrics rotting in the atmosphere.

new: Oneohtrix Point Never "Pelham Island Road"

"Ouroboros"

Eternity always feels like a long way away, but is it? That's the feeling OPN's "Pelham Island Road" conjures. A long and twisted visual trip down a road thats more like a jeti, surrounded on both sides by tides crashing on ancient stone. While digital drone is the force, an air of humanity permeates "Pelham Island Road," a head scratcher which begs on to ask, Who exactly is the ghost in the machine? The answer lies within Returnal.

video: Oneohtrix Point Never "Star Looks"

"Returnal"

Blasting off into the future-present on a random week night in Williamsburg, Oneohtrix Point Never hurls intersteller bliss like Subway's breed lateness. The sort of post-modern retro-activity that makes us wonder, 'Why the fuck aren't we living on the Moon already?' Good point. Aided by friend Matt Mondanile, on fog machine, the vibe was right for Lopatin to lift the room off its nailed hinges into the lunar limelight. Welcome to Space. Shot for Tunnelvision by C. Axel Poekel III.

video: Sun Araw CoCo 66

"The Phynx"

Ray just sent me this recap of the Sun Araw show at Coco 66 this past Sunday, which was, to say the least, some really HEAVY shit. All night. (Aside: Bigs up to Upstairs CDR, the KGB Man himself, and DJ Bryce (?) who was in the front bar spinning shit all slo'd out and drawly-like.) OPN killed a set too, but thats a whole different story. Sun Araw came in from Cali the night before, after getting stuck in LA because of weather, Airline-delays, etc in NYC. Dude took the red-eye and landed at LGA at 9:30 AM Sunday Morning, days after his supposed arrival. Yet somehow, despite delays, Sun Araw instantly cast a mega-aura over the greater Greenpoint area. The sky got all neon green. Except the ooz sky wasn't poisonious, it was just glowing mist. Like tie-dyed fog. Everything was real fresh. Super zones. (RC on a different plane of existence with this one. Right on.)

mp3: Games "Everything is Working"

"I Will"Hit you with that epic Games track a lil bit ago, and now the follow up, "Everything is Working," a slo-mo synthetic jam more intuitive to actual love making than the pre-bedroom dancefloor grind that is "Planet Party." The combo is impeccable, as if to say, "'Eh Shawty, let's rock dis way...Oh, you like my style...I like yours too, boo....Got trucks? Got Jeeps... Oh Good...Cuz we gettin' it on tonight." "Everything is Working" is the same magnetic R&B drizzle "Planet Party" touched on, except lubricated for maxium sensuality, making the cooled out bedroom zone the only suitable place for the hypnotique slow banger. And, let me tell you, if you pump this track, everything will be working. Trust me.

Games are hard at work on their debut EP, That We Can Play. The new material, the culmination of a boy hood friendship between Dan Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) and Joel Ford (Tiger City), is steeped in "jazz fusion and midi funk from the 70s and 80s, and Games is kind of the ultimate manifestation of our geekery." Mentally preparing myself for a possible dubstep and/or chopped & screwed remix. KGB Man, where you at?

In other Games news, the duo will DJ tomorrow night at Wayslower Presents: Slo Italo night at Marci Park on Union Ave in Brooklyn. Expect "slo-italo-disco, slo-'80s, slo- funk & slo-R&B." Rite Aid brand cough syrup, anyone?

mp3: Games "Planet Party"

"Time to Have Sex"
Too much bullshit, not enough jams. Fuck "Let the Music Play," gimme Games new "Planet Party," the Madonna-Phil Collins collabo you dreamed of rolling up in a white Caddie smoking PCP and talking shit about your girlfriend's weave, and your jheri curl. Best part is you, the jheri curl mofo, don't even give a fuck cause Games flying in so hot and stlying in some Marvin Gaye silk suit lined with a pound of Colombia's finest, makin er'one feel like a star. It's lingo, but it's appropriate. Scarface would approve, if he made it to the party. (Scarface dead. RIP Scarface.)

Apparently this Games shit is coming direct from the same porthole responsible for Zones Without People and Rifts between A Pact of Strangers, whatever it is, its hot and the KGB Man most surely gonna be gripping it, cutting it and reselling it to the streets for five times what he bought it for.

mp3: Skyramp Days of Thunder

"Pale Blue Dot"

Somehow, despite the totally in-my-zone album title, a reference to one of my favorite Windows 95 joystick games and the appearance of one of my favorite cosmic voyagers, I completely overlooked Skyramps Days of Thunder. Ian flipped me to it when it was posted on DayvanZombear last week, and like most of the material Dan Lopatin chimes on, it's a mystic, outerspace affair, one that would go well with repeating Carl Sagan's ellegy for Earth, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The collaboration between Lopatin and Mark McGuire, of Emeralds, is a post-Space Race ode to cosmonauts, astronauts, and monkeys, all those who braved the final frontier in the name of exploration. Like "Flight Simulator", "Dripping Water Hollows Out A Stone" channels nether-dimensions left unexplored by most humans, yet dreamt about my many.

mp3: KGB Man "Touch of Slime" & Mix

"I'll Put Out A Fucking CDR"
Eating moon rocks for breakfast and drinking syzurp for lunch may not be listed in the food pyramid as a balanced diet, but don't tell KGB Man, the subterranean alter ego of Dan Lopatin from Oneohtrix Point Never. Where OPN dwells in digital frequencies and the space station hum, KGB Man is right up in the club, shaking his dick on whoever the hell is next to him, probably pouring tranquilized cocktails down your girlfriend's ass crack. Think I'm kidding? Peep this mix KGB Man recently did for LIST. Not just a remix fiend, KGB Man produces his own brand of tweak yr brain club pop, and "Touch of Slime" is sure to do that. Don't say I didn't warn you.

video: Oneohtrix Point Never "Time Decanted"

"Actual Air"

Wafting digital sound waves in the dark are Oneohtrix Point Never's specialty. OPN reigns over the sci-fi fantasy realm of dark places and dark planets, crafting the sort of digitized mechanical hum I'd expect to hear coming from the control room on a spaceship docked just east of Neptune. Appropriately, the video, directed by Olde English Spelling Bee mastermind, and renowned man of mystery, Todd Ledford, compliments the song so much that together the two feel more like the pre-roll credits for a Blade Runner prequel than a music video, which I'm pretty sure is exactly what OPN (and Todd) were going for. "Time Decanted" can be found on the Russian Mind LP on No Fun Productions, as well as the Rifts 2xCD on No Fun Productions, where it's titled "Actual Air."
