Pure Ecstasy were in the zone, all mellowed out and grooving while drunk mess' yelled weirdo shit like "Taco Power" and sang along (half out of tune) to "You're In It Now." By the time they slipped into "Alexandria," from their recently released 7" on Acephale, the vibe was overwhelming, as evidenced by the movements of rhythm section. Mellow thrashing. Snag the new 7" here, and make sure to play it at both speeds. Trust me.

Resting up after an incredibly hectic whirlwind of a weekend, it's hard to even recollect what exactly went down. Bullet points would probably read "Weed Hounds, Twin Sister & Pure Ecstasy played a tortilla factory, then "Pure Ecstasy and Eternal Summers played the Sunday Brunch radio show", and then "Pure Ecstasy and Run DMT turned Home Sweet Home into the mellowest, most psyched out basement bar this side of Moracco." Of course, Erez Avissar was there to capture most of the weekend in glorious hues.

It's been a while since we've thrown a show, but I think this should make up for lost time. We've paired Pure Ecstasy and Twin Sister together before (and it ruled), so when we had the opportunity to reconnect the bands at the famous Los Hermanos Tortilleria, we had to make it happen. As if that wasn't enough for a stellar evening, Weed Hounds will also bring their pop-gaze to the Tortilla Factory, a highly appropriate 1-2-3 punch, if you ask me. Not only that, but DJ Rezound (Cascaders, Men & Women, Group Tightener) will be keeping the party abreast all night long on the ones-and-twos. If all this sounds nice, but you're really looking for an excuse to party, look no further than celebrating the 26th anniversary of the birth of Bobka/The Report videographer C. Axel Poekel III (aka Chaakles). Oh yeah, and there will be free tacos. More details available here. Doors will

As one chapter closes, another opens. And so with Pitchfork.TV now airing the DVD companion to The Report for One Week Only, it's time to look to the future. The next issue of The Report is currently fermenting somewhere North of McGuinness BLVD. In addition, a few editions (roughly 20, give or take) will be available for purchase as of early next week, at which point Volume 1 will cease to exist. Enjoy a few choice selections from The Report DVD.

bobkast 31: Translucent/Snow Day
"In The City Tonight"
Waking up to a generous heaping of flakes outside your window is the ultimate joy for most kids. For adults, the ultimate pain. Slushy ice roads, congested tunnels, travel delays, detours, black ice, and arctic winds can make the morning/evening commute feel like waging a war against the elements. Yet, inside, peering out a steamy window, all is calm. A bit of this quiet introspection could do the commuter well, transporting him/her from the chaos of a congested underground tunnel to a mystical igloo they once dreamed of living in as a child. This mix was designed early this morning as an agent to take you to that special frozen place.

wknd: Pure Ecstasy/Twin Sister Shows

Big shows this weekend. Tomorrow night is going to be a lot of fun, especially with Pure Ecstasy making their Brooklyn debut. Their flying all the way up from Austin and playing a free show for yall, the people the of best borough around, so be sure to drink a LOT, not that I think that will be a problem. I could go on and on about how great of a show this is, but that'd just be me repeating myself, which doesn't go any of us any good. So, with that in mind, here are some jams to get you stoked for the weekend. Pure Ecstasy just finished a jaunt up the west coast and from what I heard, the bands show at Aquarius Records in San Francisco was fucking phenomenal, which makes me even more excited for Nate Grace & Co's inaugural trip to Brooklyn at the end of the month. Consider this fine capture by our Tunnelvision brothers Yours Truly a primer for the excellent weekend that will be January 29th & 30th.

live: Pure Ecstasy
"Pressure Drop, Yeah Pressure Baby"
Been jamming hard on Pure Ecstasy for a few months now and couldn't be happier to report that Nate Grace's psychedelic machine will be headed north to play a weekend's worth of shows in Brooklyn January 29th & 30th. The first is a straight up stunna shades show at Bruar Falls with B-More typnotist Run-DMT and an assortment of special guests (stay tuned). The next night Pure Ecstasy will play a small loft show (details to come) with Twin Sister, who've been churning out some of the most zen arcade scores I've heard in a while. Pure Ecstasy's maiden voyage to the Big Apple comes a few weeks after the bands first west coast tour, so expect them to be in tip top, or shall I say, super loose shape.
As many of you know, Pure Ecstasy's released a few things this year; a self-released super limited 7-inch (50 copies, art above), the self-released SEVN DAZE tape and the Future Nostalgia tape on Leftist Nautical Antiques. Still reeling in it, the band has three upcoming releases, including a new 7-inch on Light Loge, a tape on Bum Tapes, and another 7-inch on Acephale. Probably the most productive stoner band I've ever encountered, and that's saying a lot. In addition, a couple weeks ago Pure Ecstasy "phoned in" a live performance for, um, Phoning It In, in which they play a large portion of their recorded output over a phone. Inherently lo-fi, the session actually sounds pretty damn good and makes me extremely excited to be presenting their Brooklyn debut next month. Stick around for more info in the coming week.

"Your In It Now"
I've heard about 12 minutes of Pure Ecstasy's synthetic space rock and its all the serotonin drip you'll need to ease the transition from summer to fall. A busy man, Nate Grace, who operates under the guise of Pure Ecstasy, is currently selling two tapes and a 33 rpm 7" of grooves, which you probably already read about on Friendship Bracelet. Blissful and drifting in a Spacemen 3 coming down from a major trip without any dark periods , the three songs on Future Nostalgia act as a primer to a hypnotic voyage to ones happy place. Maybe its a desert island, or the mountains of the moon, or perhaps Buffalo, NY, wherever you want to go, Pure Ecstasy's self-released vinyl offering will take you there. As Ian noted, there are only 50 of these bad boys, each spray painted with a different cover. I ordered one today so apparently there are still some left, though not sure how many. But don't worry, if you get shut out, Pure Ecstasy will be releasing a follow up 45 next month on the brand spanking new Austin label Light Lodge, which is apparently about to start releasing some killer shit. Keep your eyes and ears to the grindstone. Then plug the lava lamp in for good company.
