video: Four Tet "Angel Echoes"

"Zones"

3D, a medium through which many have tried to replicate authentic life through film, has been in our collective consciousness since the '50s. It's never been that great, although, in theory it's amazing. Do you remember the first time you watched a 3D movie? I do. It was Captain EO at Epcot Center. I also remember playing Rad Racer in 3D on NES, which, instead of mimicking the harsh realties of the illustrious International race community, somehow communicated a vaulted hyper reality, one more akin to needing the chill out room at the Hacienda than "seeing things as they are." And so here we are, in the age of Avatar, the 3D age, and Ray Concepcion is downgrading the medium to its most commercial and most hypnotique. Armed with a janky pair of 3D glasses, made out of paper and what are most likely the worlds cheapest lighting gels, Concepcion takes Four Tet's recent performance at LPR to new hypnogigic states, reformatting an often alien tool in order to convey the ecstatic exuberance of one of those girls up front, grinding her ass (and her teeth), watching that EXIT sign in her peripheral expand and contract like her inner consciousness.

Burial & Four Tet are Moth/Wolf Club

Details on this are incredibly scarce, but BLEEP has page in its catalog for Moth/Wolf Club, a collaboration between mega-producers Four Tet (aka Kieren Hebden) and British dub-step luminary Burial. According to BLEEP, the vinyl was available for pre-order beginning 4/5/09 and is already "out of stock." A Google search didn't yield much, except for an equally as info-less catalog post on htfr.com. Here is all the info we've got so far on what is sure to be one of the year's most enlightening collabo's.
A split release shrouded in darkness (hence the artwork, no sales notes, no audio, no promos). Just a solitary twelve, two sides crafted by two of the most innovative producers of the last twenty years, Burial and Four Tet... Essential Purchase never sounded so right.

[ED Note: Apparently this is not "out of stock", as once listed, on BLEEP. Click here to order.]

sunday morning music: Caribou/ Four Tet

"And When You Smile It Melts Away Again"
I've been listening to this at least once a day since I stumbled upon it a month ago. Four Tet takes an already mesmerizing Caribou track and stripes it to the bones, leaving only dreamy harmonies (which are amazing), acoustic guitar and floating atmospherics. Life in slo-mo. The perfect soundtrack to a sun filled wake and bake or sleepwalking through the park.

Bobkast #13: Let It Blossom

Our Wings Are Open Wide
(thanks to nikomatic for the photo)
After slowly emerging from the winter hibernation, there's no better way to embrace the joyousness of the rebirth season than by putting some life into your bones via raucous dance party in the sunshine. For the thirteenth edition of the Bobkast, we offer you a collection of beat-heavy tunes that we think sound just as good in the warm glory of Mother Nature as they do in the dark clubs where they originated. Ranging from dirty disco funk to sleek and squeeky electro, this mix is an electronic celebration, ideal for working out the kinks to your favorite dance moves (including the cabbage patch, running man, and egyptian strut) in anticipation of the summertime heat.

The Bobkast #6: Gray Skies, Sinking Suns

With winter comes snow and trees

Despite Global Warming's best efforts, Winter is officially upon us, and this latest installment of The Bobkast was made with the transition of the seasons in mind. And here's another "Inconvenient Truth": you will likely enjoy this mix, despite knowing little about (or being aesthetically opposed to) 'electronic' music. The tracks featured have a somewhat chilly vibe, but still provide enough warmth to get you tappin' your frozen toes and humming along to the melodies, as they come together to create a sound that can best be described as "indie-electronica." So bundle up tight, put on some warm headphones, and pray for a snow day.
