More great electronic music from Scandinavia

We first heard Oslo, Norway-based producer Diskjokke featured on the fantastic (and criminally underrated) Sunkissed mix last year, but it wasn't until recently that we were re-introduced to his novel take on the space disco sound. Using the laid-back, bongo-infused vibe of space disco as his template, Disjokke works in elements of German tech-house and French electro to give his music a unique sound and appeal.

Essentially, he has taken my three favorite sub-genres of electronic music and seamlessly blended them together to create some awesome tunes that sound equally as great on a pair of headphones as they do blasting from large stereo speakers. Fans of Lindstrom, Kompakt, and Ed Banger will all find something to like in Diskjokke's music.

electro-hop: Eliot Lipp

"Jermaine Dupri meets Aphex Twin"

Where would Eliot Lipp be today without his trusted Korg MS-20? This vintage snyth (pictured above), along with his Sequential Circuits gear, has helped to define his signature sound, a heady mix of underground rap, classic electro, 70's fusion, drrty funk, and 90's techno, just to name a few.

Born and raised in Tacoma, Washington (and since a resident of Chicago, San Francisco, LA, and now Brooklyn), Lipp got his break in 2004 when Scott Herren (aka Prefuse 73) happened across his demo. Soon after, Lipp's self-titled debut hit the streets on Herren's own Eastern Developments label, earning much deserved critical acclaim. Since then, Lipp has released LPs on Hefty Records and Metatronix, while in the meantime creating a slew of EPs and mixtapes and touring relentlessly.

This Girl Called Uffie

"Is It Hip-Hop, Is It Electro, Damn Is She Coming from Hell?"

Uffie has been bringing her nu-skool spoken word electro rap to the masses since hooking up with Ed Banger maestro Feadz in 2005 ("Pop the Glock"). Recently, she lent her off kilter rhyme-less rapping to the Justice jump-off "Tthhee Ppaarrttyy" (which is how every summer playlist should start).

Known for her rambunctious, often vulgar, lyrics ("If you just called me a cunt in some other word like __, But after this you'll be the one sucking a whole lot of dicks"), Uffie switches lanes on "First Love," a bouncy bubblegum electro-pop-hop anthem. The surprisingly lovey-dovey I-Miss-You but Fuck Off track could really become a staple on teenage mixtapes in the years to come. It's one of the most saccharine soaked songs I've heard this year, and a huge step forward for the potty mouthed US-via-France rap-tress. She's already dropped a bunch of singles and remixes, but we can't wait for her album, due on Ed Banger sometime in 2007. Uffie's got it.
