Rose Hill Drive is one of the few bands nowadays with both the chops and the cahones to successfully cover Jimi Hendrix (see above). As you can hear in their sound, they were big fans of all things Hendrix while growing up in the mountains of Boulder, CO.

So for those wondering who will carry the torch of this raw hard rock sound as the legends continue to pass away (RIP Mitch Mitchell), look no further than Rose Hill Drive. Equipped with nothing more than guitar, bass, and drums, the trio creates a wall of sound that literally dropped jaws when they opened for The Who on their most recent world tour.

After crushing last night's Jammy awards, Bobka pals Rose Hill Drive will be playing TONIGHT at the Mercury Lounge in what is sure to be another blistering performance. Classick: Jimi Hendrix

"Let me stand next to your fire"


This 1967 painting by Martin Sharp essentially sums up everything there is to say about Hendrix, so instead of writing wasted words, check out a segment of his performance from the Monterey International Pop Festival from the same year. If you watch closely, you can almost see the colors exploding from his guitar. Coincidently the painting was recently featured in the NY Times and is currently on display at the Whitney Museum in NYC through September 16th.
