mp3: Taken by Trees remixed by Air France

"Baby"

Since GvB and Marc Hogan have been going back and forth about the new Taken By Trees record, I've found myself increasingly longing for a mid-afternoon nap at the beach with Victoria Bergsman. That is, until I found out that her new album, recorded in Iran, was produced by one-half of Swedish baelric disco duo Studio! Luckily there are a few pristine seaside jams to be had, including The Tough Alliance's still banging two-year-later "Taken Too Young" and "The Sweetness of Air France," a remix by, you guessed it, Air France, which appeared as the b-side on Victoria's "Sweetness" 7-inch single. If, like me, you really can't wait to see what Victoria conjured up for Taken By Trees sophomore release, hopefully this will hold you over.

Also, anybody got a copy of this they'd like to share?

this is just a tribute: Arthur Russell

"I'm A Little Lost Without You"

Jens Lekman , whose Night Falls Over Kortedala is a breath of fresh summer swedish disco pop, compiled this four song tribute to avant-garde cellist and disco producer Arthur Russell, who collaborated with David Byrne, Phillip Glass & Allen Ginsberg (just to name a few). Unfortunately, in 1992 Russell fell ill with the AIDS virus and, as Kyle Gann of the Village Voice wrote, "vanished into the music." Jens and some friends, including the enchanting Victoria Bergman of Taken By Trees, put this compilation together as a tribute to a true one of a kind. More on Arthur Russell soon.

Those cats at the Hood Internet done did it again. This time they bring in all of our favorites. Literally. R. Kelly, Jens Lekman, and Kid Rock! I can honestly say that I've listened to Jens joyously weep over "If I Could Cry (It Would Feel Like This" a shit load of times, and never, not once thought about Kels. God bless the Hood Internet.

Taken By Trees

"Hours Pass Like Centuries"

A sucker for the soft coo of female singers, as well as swedish indie pop, I was super excited when Victoria Bergman - aka Taken By Trees, (formerly of The Concretes and, of course, featured in Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks") - released her latest album, Open Field, last week. Since then, it has quickly become one of my favorite records of the year so far. It's soft and warm like your favorite hoody on a breezy summer's night near the water, and as comforting as the ebb and flow of the ocean. Here's what Victoria has to say:

Here we are at the verge of summer, letting the soft air stroke our skin and the verdure caress our minds. I honestly couldn't think of a more beautiful moment for finally setting Open Field free. It feels solemn and kind of bittersweet. I am now handing it over to you all to have and to hold. Please hold hard, dearest ones. It is no longer mine alone and that is where the bittersweet feeling comes in. Like those early strawberries I tried the other day or forcing myself to jump into the cold but oh so refreshing water. I hope you will take care of Open Field and treat it as a friend through all seasons. May it nourish your imagination to get inspired to try new ways.

By for now,
TBT
