news: Miracle Fortress Readying 2 Releases

"This Thing About You"
(photo by my buffalo heart)
It's June so you can bet that I've been revisiting Miracle Fortress' phenomenal, and frankly, criminally underrated debut Five Roses. Released on Secret City over two years ago, Five Roses is the embodiment of woozy, Beach Boys influenced experimental pop. Careening harmonies, loopy sound collages and ethereal dreamscapes, encased inside the glowing orb of young love and idealism, Graham Van Pelt truly crafted a wondrous record, one that has yet to have been issued on wax. (Why?!) Anyway, I randomly went to Miracle Fortress' MySpace this morning and noticed a note from Mr. Van Pelt giving a few clues to the acts next release.
hi everybody,
new stuff is coming into the light. working very hard at finishing one or two records/ things this summer -- hope to see you soon
sorry it's been so long

There you have it folks, looks like we can expect some new output from the majestic Montreal group in the not so distant future. In the meantime, if you can find the bands limited to 200 7", I highly recommend picking it up (and snagging one for me too!) They might be sold out, as Rough Trade doesn't seem to have them anymore, but you never know. Until then, enjoy this.

we saw: Wolf Parade

"This Hearts On Fire"
{Bad Ass Photography by Dese'Rae Stage}

Wolf Parade rocked Terminal 5 last night. This is noteworthy because A) I have not listened to At Mount Zoomer once and B) I've been avoiding Terminal 5 like typhoid. Regardless, WP brought it. "You Are A Runner...", check. "Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts", check. "Shine A Light", check. "We Built Another World", check. "I'll Believe In Anything", check. And, thank little 8 pound 4 oz baby Jesus, "This (mother fucking) Heart's On (fucking) Fire", double check. Wolf Parade takes the stage at T5 again tonight around 9. Tickets still available, just do it. [Side note: Tix just went on sale for Spencer's return to NY with Sunset Rubdown, Merc is sold out, but Music Hall still available.] Mad props to whoever was doing lights last night, phenomenal job (peep video below for evidence).

CMJ preview: Miracle Fortress

"And Maybe When Its Colder You Can Come To Stay"

As CMJ gets closer (and more chaotic) I'm getting excited to know that I've secured a spot to see Montreal's Miracle Fortress at least once. The psychedelic rainbow harmonies of Five Roses have been on my mind since KEXP enlightened me last spring. Miracle Fortress should bring to mind fellow hazy Montreal rockers The Besnard Lakes and the equally Canadian, Caribou(formerly Manitoba). The harmonies on "Maybe Lately" are so fucking Beach Boys and while yes we say that alot, and yes its 2k7's indie rock key word (Wilson-esque), there's no need to deny its looping, whirling seaside goodness. Come check them out with us 10/16 at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC with the Rosebuds, The Most Serene Republic and a slew of others.
